“2To be yourself in a world that is constantly changing, trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment”, by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Brendon Baptiste was born in the on a small island in the Caribbean called Grenada. Brendon who is also known as “Yung Image” always knew that he would one day be part of the music industry, With the introduction of cultural music from his father as well as soca and dancehall from his two older brothers, he knew that he would be apart of the music industry whether it is for artistic reasons or simply a hobby. The preference of dancehall and reggae music was prevalent over the cultural music. He was also influenced by old school reggae artists such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Steel Pulse, Maxi Priest and many more musical legends.
During the mid 90’s, Yung Image and his two older brothers migrated to the United States to live with their mom. Adapting to the new environment and the American lifestyle was very difficult given the difference in culture and most importantly linguistic challenges. However, his love for music made it easy to adjust from Caribbean sound to the edgy sound of hip hop. He acquired a passion for artist such as the late, great Notorious B.I.G, 2Pac Shakur, LL cool J, Jay Z and many more. During his high school years he joined the soccer team and became acquainted with a teammate that was Jamaican, who taught him a different style of music called Dj-ing which was a mixture of dancehall and rapping. Brendon had insecurities about the sound of his style of music because it sounded different due to his mixture of accents and slangs in comparison to the usual American and Caribbean way of speaking. Little did he know, the difference of his music was his stepping stone for the fulfillment of his dreams.
Yung Image inquired about gaining studio time and was granted the opportunity where he recorded his first solo track, which was a freestyle over a Neptune’s instrumental called “You snooze you lose”. This track was well favored by a vast amount of people, who loved and appreciated it and gave amazing feedback, which drove him to the decision of not specializing in a specific genre, but would combine hip hop, R&B and Soca. In the summer of 2005, Yung Image recorded his next track entitled "Rude Boys", which was aired on a few local radio stations like "104.7 -Fire station" and "107.9 - Flava station". In 2007, he met a producer and DJ named Gunzout who was on the verge of creating his own entertainment team and artist development program. A strong bond grew between them both and they became good friends and decided to tackle the industry from a different angle, through the production of many different mix tapes, CDs, remixes and creating some ground breaking music alongside label mate, Saggittarius Black.
In 2011, Image and the group agreed to part ways and he decided to go back to making solo tracks. He released several songs which boosted his popularity and exposed him to the masses. He did a cover of Iaza Morgan's song entitled "One by One" then released "Josefeen" which was made on the Overproof riddim as well as "One and Only". During that same summer, Image linked up with a young producer from Grenada named Jude Robertson aka Jre. The two music lovers then released several songs together from soca to dance hall. He also released a song for cariacou carnival entitled, “Gallay Anthem” on the kayak jab riddim. He then released another song called "All Black Everything" on Jre's secret society riddim, which became his main single. A video was made for that single directed by Johnny Mc Cool 3000. And in 2013he released his hit song with Mr legs “No worries No stress”.
Image is currently working on his album, mix tapes and several collaborations with other artists and producers. As image would say, "music is a mission and not a competition", therefore assurance is guaranteed on continuous good music from Brendon"image" Baptiste.
