Twisted Oak Apothecary was born out of my desire to provide products with potential therapeutic benefits for a variety of ailments. After years of sports injuries and anxieties, treated by the usual pharmaceutical methods, I wanted something different and non-chemical.

Italian born, California grown. I spent my childhood in San Diego enjoying the almost year-round sunshine playing tennis and softball. During my youth, I injured my back playing sports, the first of what would be many more injuries and a lifetime of pain meds and physical therapy.

My husband and I met at college in Thousand Oaks, California. After eighteen years of moving for our careers, we returned to Thousand Oaks to plant our roots and raise our now teens. My pain continued to impact my enjoyment of everyday life activities. As someone who loves DIY home projects, I pushed myself until one day, I felt a pop. And so, I found out I had what is known as Spondylolisthesis (not fun), as well as a bulged and degenerated disc (really not fun). As you can imagine, after years of doctors, physical therapy, and pain pills, I was fed up.

In 2017 I made the decision after much consultation and research to have spinal fusion. Now anyone will tell you that back surgery is no joke (because it isn’t!). There is still pain at times when I push myself too hard, but I’m much better than I was the day before surgery. Surgery took care of my mechanical issues, but I needed something to manage the mild to moderate pain at times in my back.

I spent over twenty-four years in human resources, which is another story altogether. Being a leader in an organization can be incredibly stressful, especially when the organization demands significant and constant change. Add this to the stress of being a mom of young children and a wife, I was burning the candle at both ends. So there I was again, more doctors, more medications to help with sleep and tension. I was over it.

Even though my position was eliminated in 2018, my desire to assist those facing adversity achieve their full potential was not. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my career was helping people achieve success; whether it was in their personal career growth or in overcoming a significant challenge, I enjoyed being a part of their progress.

So how did I get into the CBD business? A friend recommended I use CBD as a pain rub to alleviate my back pain. I liked that I was able to benefit from the rich cannabinoids in hemp without any psychotropic effects. After researching more, I started using oil tinctures to promote relaxation. Guess what? I was sleeping better and feeling fewer muscle aches. I wanted to share this with others and help them improve their general health. Who doesn’t want that? And so, it is my labor of love to launch Twisted Oak Apothecary where my goal is to educate and provide CBD rich products with the results people desire.
