Humza Salam is a 17 year old student at Dubai International Academy with a drive to push the limits of what he can achieve. After writing the 2nd Edition of his book on Sprinting which was also supported by Olympic Coaches and Greg Rutherford (Olympic and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, and World Champion), Humza decided it was time to push the limits once again, and seek out other challenges at a much larger scale, that had the potential to take on a life on their own.
With the money that Humza had saved from his job as a Team Leader at the Dubai Holiday Camps, during the school breaks (Winter 2107 & Spring 2018), he decided to start his own clothing line, Transition Athletics, clothing for the Alphas. He wanted to give athletes the option to wear high performance clothing, but also something causal and simple that projects dominance and power, the main attributes of an elite sprinter, all under one brand.
Humza could have asked his parents to lend him the money to launch the company, but he wanted to launch the brand on his own. He had purchased the license for the emblems which were used to design the logos before he even told his parents, as he wanted it to be a surprise. He launched his Instagram page on April 1st, 2018, and launched the website April 3rd, 2018.
Humza has always had a good sense of style, which is likely a result of his mother who is a highly sought out bespoke fashion designer. None of the clothes from other brands really resonated with Humza as he felt that they didn’t fully reflect who he was. The purpose of clothing beyond the purely functional needs, is an expression of who we are as individuals. That is when he realized that their was a demand, if not a need in the market, for clothing targeted, but not limited to passionate sprinters.
Given Humza’s passion for sprinting, the name of the brand was inspired by the 3 phases of a sprint: drive, terminal velocity and speed endurance, and how we transition through those phases. The Wolf emblem was the best personification of the brand, since these are also the same 3 phases a Wolf undergoes on a daily basis, when hunting and taking down its prey.
The Transition Athletics clothing brand will start with a clothing line focused on causal wear and an athletic line, after that the limits are only defined by Humza’s creativity and imagination.
