Bio

Meet Randon Campbell (@TheTrapDentist), a 2nd year student at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Like most children and adults, Randon hated the dentist for most of his life. Growing up in South Florida, he associated this tooth pulling boogeyman with an inability to fill financial gaps not covered by insurance. He was also unwilling to put any “unnecessary” financial stress on his family, including college. By using the system outlined in #TheAcademicHustle, he was blessed to be able to attend college fully funded. In addition, his negative image of the dentist shifted after participating in the Thomas J. Blocker summer program, when he learned from Black health professionals and heard stories about international service and outreach. He could see himself doing the same. Randon graduated magna cum laude from Morehouse College, where he remained faithful to the @morehouseband (#BassHorn #Sousaphone) while becoming active in both the Pre-Dental Society and the @IDIDPipeline. Through these groups, Randon practiced his love of music, educated peers on oral health, and volunteered heavily in the local community. Randon uses his previous concerns about the dentist and his unique perspective to guide his personal practice philosophy, which is centered around comfort, patient education and preventative care. As a growing professional, he knows “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” and that prevention starts with educating and establishing a healthy relationship with his patients. As someone whose family had to drive at least thirty minutes away to see a dentist who accepted their insurance, Randon wants to use his skills to not only provide quality care to those who can afford it, but to those who desperately need it as well. In his spare time, Randon established his first business, @Humble.Merchant.Shop, where he specializes in the sale of jewelry and apparel tailored to health professionals and the culture.

As an entrepreneur, musician, and student currently attending the #1 dental school in the world, Randon can be considered a man of many talents. In addition, he has been to over 7 countries outside the USA and loves to travel and learn about new cultures. Through his social media and through his works as The Trap Dentist, he brings the flavor of South Florida and the cultural awareness of a man well-traveled to the dental office and beyond!
