This book is a project that was born from my family’s own journey, pain and experience. Unfortunately, as most parents today, I was clueless and was awakened by the pain and shock that this devastating news could have in any normal human been.
Since then I have been determined to do something about it and not just watch the shocking news that in every 9 minutes child protective services substantiates or finds evidences for, a claim of child abuse!
My hope with this book is to provide a powerful tool for parents that it can break the communication barriers that one might have to talk about this difficult subject, empowering the kids with information in how to behave and defend themselves.
I have notice that the common factor between the victims are that they had no clue of what was going on, been a easy pray for predators around .
I started this journey 4 years ago after trying to reach justice for my niece who was abused from age 8 to 11 by a uncle. After trying many different ways and not been successful, I decided that I could still do something about it, and that became my mission in life.
It has been a very educational and alarming journey, as I have learned that the majority of perpetrators are someone the child or family knows. As many as 93 percent of victims under the age of 18 know the abuser, according to www.rainn.org.
Childhood sexual abuse has been correlated with higher levels of depression, guilt, shame, self-blame, eating disorders, somatic concerns, anxiety, dissociative patterns, repression, denial, sexual problems, and relationship problems.
My family has been leaving it out most of the effects listed above, and my heart is deeply moved by how deep this consequences can be !
My mission with this book is:
“ To provide tools and resources for parents, guardians, teachers and kids to PREVENT abuse”.
And My Vision is :
“ To greatly reduce the number of children harmed by abuse”.
