Going live on a story in front of more than 2.5 million people is a complete thrill, even when the story itself is a challenge…especially when you only have 90 seconds to tell the entire story!

I am a former TV news anchor and an avid international traveler. I am also the founder of "Chutzpah + Charm" where I speak to women in business, mostly entrepreneurs, about tapping into their inner chutzpah to get ahead in their industries. It’s that chutzpah + charm that has helped me to push brands to the forefront. I was an the only technology news anchor in the Dallas market when I anchored my own segment, “Online With Rikki Ragland,” during the 4, 5 and 6pm newscasts. Several of my stories introduced Internet start-ups, including Jib Jab, eHarmony and Pets.com to the DFW market. There is nothing like having eHarmony’s creator, Neil Clark Warren, show up on your TV station’s doorstep asking you to introduce his new dating website to the Dallas market. Or having a group of guys from a company called “JibJab” request that you do a story on them to help launch their new dot com site!

Always in motion, I am usually keeping up with my eight-year-old hockey playing son. A former model himself, he is also an awesome traveling companion and loves to explore new countries. He was a model for a few of the costumes for Spirit Halloween, which was our family business, started by my father-in-law. I was Spirit Halloween’s spokeswoman for our retail stores in Houston & Austin and raised more than a million dollars for the Child Life Departments for two Texas Childrens’ Hospitals through our Spirit of Children program.

As a breast cancer survivor (detected when I was 35-years-old), I have spoken to groups about health and wellness and was the cover story & feature in a national health magazine. I have also hosted several DVDs for breast cancer prevention and survivorship.

I am an East Coaster born into seven generations of Texans. I love to play at the net on my tennis team and our family cherishes our rescue Shih-tzu, Hunter Wellington.
