Bio

Our organization advocates for youth in Alabama's foster care ages 14-21. We help build lifelong skills and develop supportive connections for older youth in foster care. Our regional youth consultants act as supports in youth ISP meetings. They also empower young people to advocate for themselves by providing them with needed information and resources they can use to make informed decisions and requests.

IL Connect hosts two camps over the summer to provide a sense of normalcy and have fun with youth from a similar background across the entire state. Forging friendships and building strong foundations for their long-term success by participating in skill-building workshops and encouraging participation in such programs as the Fostering Hope Scholarship and accessing ETV funds. Throughout the year, we visit different counties in the state and hold monthly DREAM Council Meetings in conjunction with their area ILP.

IL Connect also works to develop leadership for our DREAM Ambassadors. This diverse group of young people are currently in care, or recently adopted, and some are foster alumni. These ambassadors work as peer supports to inform other youth in care of their rights, and build their own advocacy skills. DREAM Ambassadors also speak with leaders in child-welfare and occasionally legislators to work towards making foster care in Alabama more equitable for all youth.
