My new folk pop acoustic album ‘Freefalling’, produced by award winning multi-instramentalist Nick Pynn and Phil Ward, was released by First Night Records in 2018.
The catchy, whimsical, often ethereal, folk acoustic pop flavour of my music is drawn from a gypsy life spent travelling continent to continent, recording and singing over many years.
“An album with plenty of character… It’s one of those tuneful, catchy, whimsical, slightly quirky-indie acoustic-folk-pop confections that proves deceptively sweet-toned and accessible and exquisite, yet often also elicits emotions and physical responses that confirm the existence of the darker side of things.” Fatea
"Miriam Cooke has a clear voice with the purity and power of Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell or Joan Baez. The arrangements are simple giving her singing space to shine through and shine gloriously it does. Miriam makes it sound so simple, so effortless and so perfect...finely crafted sensitive songs delivered by a classic singer songwriter that nods back to those gatefold sleeved albums by Sandy Denny, Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell. This is a delight throughout.” Northern Sky Magazine.
"What Cooke has created is a thing of intense beauty, a structure as fragile as even the most dainty of flowers yet with an underlying strength that is hard to ignore." Musical Moron
'Definitely an act worth checking out. A truly three dimensional, musically and instrumentally diverse show - with a performance you lose yourself in. The songs are honest, nostalgic and thought provoking and capture all angles of love and life perfectly.'
'This wonderful songstress is the perfect candidate. Accompanied by flute, violin, double bass and of course her own guitar and voice she combines wonderful stories and delicate melodies.' Folklore
Soldiers of the Damned, the WW2 psychological thriller, which I produced and starred in, won Best Director recently at the Marbella International Film festival and was nominated Best Picture.
It is available on all digital platforms.
A former International fashion model, I trained and worked as an actress and musician before I was awarded a first in my BSc in Archaeology and a distinction in my MSc in Environmental Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. After this I moved to Durham University on a PhD scholarship. I also work as a producer and development exec for Viking Film and Television.
My hands on love of travel, adventure, food, history and the countryside is drawn from, and layered with influences from my archaeology background, my formative years growing up in a farming community in Ireland, a keen interest in folklore and social history, and from the other side of the coin; my life as an actress and fashion model whizzing from fashion capital to far flung location.
I do like a good ferret around into the past, and a good shoe.
