We got married in 1993 and we were 23 by that time and we worked in the insurance and investment industry.
Our hobby was and still is, traveling, so we decided to hold having kids till we were in our early 30’s, to give us time to travel as much as possible, and so we did…
By 1999 we had 1-year old boy and Liz was pregnant with a girl, we already traveled half the world, I had my dream car and were living million-dollar mansion and a no limit credit card.
At that same time Liz was working on her thesis about, what was going to happened if the Banks went into the Investment Industry, and guess what? It happened.
We lost everything in one day, a Friday morning, I remember very well. All the sudden we had to start all over again, that day we were brainstorming on what we were going to do for the rest of our lives. We sold the house, trade my car for a cheap minivan and started to work on our next business. Liz started to study in the CPA exam while I was researching the Accounting business and strategies, and it took us about 6 to 12 months to get the clients we need it. That Friday was stressful but deep inside there was a voice telling me “you’re going to be fine”.
It’s been 20 years since that day, we don’t have the million-dollar mansion, have a budget and we still have a minivan, but we work from our home, doing much of the work online, and work is less stressful than before. It was not easy, but I can honestly say we are a happy family.
And we are getting ready for our next adventure!
