Bio

I am a gay male in my 40's that has had many jobs from waiting tables to a Police Officer. I currently wait tables and realized that I can not do this forever so I decided to stop making excuses and to create my own fate. Although I am and was happily Partnered, I never felt comfortable in the straight world or in the gay world. I was ashamed to be gay in the straight world and the gay world confused me even more because there were so many categories to fit in; like bears, cubs, twinks, otters etc. I quickly realized that I fit in nowhere. I was not fit, never felt attractive, was shy and felt quite alone. I lived like that for the first half of my life and recently felt unhappy with my job, my health and my weight. So The first thing I did was to return to College full time and then tackled the harder issue, my health. I had just been diagnosed as obese, high blood pressure, a type 2 diabetic and with high cholesterol. I felt too young inside for that diagnosis, so I decided to lose 75 pounds and donate 5 dollars a pound (same price as hamburger) to The HRC and am encouraging others to join me in taking a negative idea of weight loss and turning it into a positive for someone else. I had never gone to the gym and always felt too embarrassed and ashamed to go. I decided that I needed to change that attitude, so I went public with it all on Instagram. Holding myself accountable, publicly would not only force me to change, but to also be a beacon to others that felt the same. I felt extremely embarrassed and ashamed to go to a gym because I was afraid of what I would look like or be the butt of someone's jokes. I put down the crutch of food, swallowed my pride and did it. I want others that feel the same to see me going to a gym and know they can do it also, with their heads held high. Most people want to change something about themselves, whether it be emotionally, financially or physically and are too afraid or intimidated to do so. It wasn't until I decided to look at this entire venture , of creating my own path and fate, as a positive move; and instead of looking at myself negatively, I am with humor. Let's face it, a middle-aged college student on an elliptical machine at the gym, doing homework for Digital Forensics and bouncing around wondering what's jiggling is funny. So instead of fearing change, I am embracing it and have learned to laugh at myself.
