Well, hello there! My name is Hudson and I'm a 4 y/o Japanese Akita! I was adopted from Big East Akita Rescue by my humans! I live in Philly, the City of Brotherly love and what do you know? I have two brothers! Blake is my senior Pitbull brother (10 y/o) who currently suffers from Canine Cognitive Dysfunction and then there is Oliver! A 3 y/o Korean Jindo that suffers from severe fear aggression and anxiety.
My male human, Jack, is the Director of the very 1st animal shelter in the country! The Women's Animal Center celebrated 150 years this year! I get go to work with at the shelter each and every day and serve as the unofficial mascot for the Women's Animal Center! I get to actively participate in finding homes for animals that are homeless like I once was!
Our mission in general is to support animal welfare as a whole. On this page, we advocate for ethical sheltering which means supporting foster care, adoption programs, fundraising, enrichment, TNR programs and much more! We post a “Shelter Stories” series each Saturday that highlights an animal for adoption, an adoption event or something shelter related.
My female human, Julianne, is on the board of a local nonprofit called your "Your Pit Bull & You" which brings me to my next point. YPBY is a non-profit organization committed to highlighting pit bulls in the most positive light, promoting humane reward-based training and organizing fundraising initiatives to help rescues and shelters. This really covers a lot and sums up my beliefs! On our page we promote humane reward based training and positive reinforcement ONLY! We aim to highlight Pitbulls, Akitas & Korean Jindos in the most positive light.
We are currently hosting a “Training Thursday” series, where I post a video of my female human and I working on new tricks! We are following the “It’s Tricky” program by Lori Nanan and at the end we are giving the course away to a follower! Finally, I mentioned my brothers both are living with challenging conditions. We discuss them on our page at length and with great honesty. We also promote the importance of Veterinary Behavior in addition to choosing the most qualified and reputable pet professionals to work with you and your pet.
We aim to help improve the relationships between humans and pets whether it be in a shelter setting or in a home. We want our page to be a space for educating all things positive and to build trusting, healthy and positive bonds with our dogs. We hope to do this through fun posts, interactive education and open and honest discussion.
