Bio

Hello, I'm Maya Anderson - or 'House Nerd' as I am often known! House Nerd is the name of my blog, which is all about inspiring houses and how to make your own home a place you really love.

On House Nerd I share home tours, DIY and decorating advice, before and after stories and fantastic architecture and interior design. I also share our adventures DIY-renovating and decorating our own home.

What makes House Nerd different from other interior design blogs is its professionalism. I think my media background comes through in the blog, my writing and my posts – it’s professional while still having a relatable, friendly and approachable feel.

I have a Media & Information degree from Curtin University, majoring in Journalism with a postgraduate degree in Creative Writing. After that I worked as the deputy editor and online content coordinator, where I wrote fitness, nutrition and beauty content for two health and fitness magazines.

I took the plunge into full-time freelance writing for magazines and newspapers after that and wrote and decided to focus on honing my expertise in the industries I loved the most – homes, building, real estate and design.

I started House Nerd after I saw a niche in the market for a quality interiors blog that had a focus on Western Australian homes.

I have also worked as a columnist and wrote two regular columns for The West Australian newspaper; House Nerd and Try This.

I live with my husband, lovely one-year-old son and our dog, Nala. To relax I love running, keeping fit, cooking, entertaining at home and dining out.

I have worked on influencer campaigns with corporations and brands including ABC, Lotterywest, Bosch, Dulux, Dorf, Menulog, Bauwerk Colour, iRobot, Masters, Homesales, TOMS, White Knight and Trojan Tools.
