Their products are great, but lets face it, with all their world renown and prestige comes a hefty price. If you're buying them in store you're paying a hefty mark up. If you're buying them online you're paying an arm and a leg for shipping.
There is something to be said about a lot of the off brand fishing gear out there that can hold up to some of the big brands. My goal is to bring them to you!

Recently my wife gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Isabelle, and as the fishing season where we live is about to begin, I started thinking about how I would introduce her to fishing when she's old enough. But how can I convince her that fishing isn’t just for boys? How can I make sure she has fun with me when I take her fishing for the first time so that she’s begging me to go back? I found an article that I think is going to help me out when that time comes, and I wanted to share it with you too. You can find it in the top menu under “Take Your Kids Fishing”.
Most importantly, what kind of rod do I give her to make her first cast? Should I get her a cheap reel and rod like the one I had as a child, or should I get her a proper spinning reel with a decent, reliable rod?
I’ve thought long and hard about this. While I loved going fishing with my dad, I have a lot of memories of frustration trying to untangle knots that got caught up in the spincasting reel I had. Or worse, the one time I made a cast, let go of the button too soon and the hook whipped around and caught me in the back of the knee. It was a barbed hook, so my dad had to push the hook through and cut the barb off before pulling the remainder out the way it came in. Another time I did the same thing, but caught my uncle in the lip with a treble hook. If you’re fishing with small children, mash those damn barbs down with a pair of pliers.
Obviously, I chose to look for a spinning rod. But most of what I could find that would be suitable for a child’s first spinning rod were either junk, or way too much of an investment if my little girl just wasn’t into fishing. The ones I found at a price that looked good online were met with surprise shipping charges at the checkout. Want to buy this lure for 5$? Sure, just pay 20$ in shipping.
