Shooting in Finland was an adjustment because of the temperature. This was taken on our first day, which was also the coldest day we experienced while there (-14F). It was so cold our camera batteries died and we had to swap them out before we even got this shot! We photographed a number of different perspectives on the ship — directly behind me looking out into the sea, from the side, directly overhead looking down at the water — before ending up with this angle, which was taken on a small deck located outside the bridge (where the captain controls the ship). We immediately knew it would be the winner because it was the only photo that got close to capturing the vastness of the water and the texture of the ice.
