New reveal!!! I swapped out my Writers Workshop with Chinese Calligraphy 🈷️ All my students are Chinese and it just so happens that one of our curriculum books is “The Ugly Vegetable” by famous Chinese author, Grace Lin. ⠀

In her charming story about celebrating differences, a Chinese-American girl wishes for a garden of bright flowers instead of one full of bumpy, ugly, vegetables. The neighbors’ gardens look so much prettier and so much more inviting to the young gardener than the garden of “black-purple-green vines”. The mom and daughter come together though to plant, label the 🥬🥒 in Chinese and ultimately make vegetable soup come harvest. ⠀

Many of my kids go to Chinese School and were able to show off their writing skills! Challenge: Does anyone know what some of those words are??⠀

P.S. The yellow door behind me leads to the teacher’s room and my class will get to make their very own Vegetable Soup!!!! 🥣
