About Cocina 54
Austin, TX – Federico Carrillo and Cecilia Panichelli, the two Founders of Cocina 54 Empanadas, immigrated to the United States from Argentina fifteen years ago. They loved their new home, but as they began to settle in Austin, Texas, realized that they were missing their favorite go-to meal for busy weeknights – a savory, hand-held pie, called an empanada. The couple was unable to find any good alternatives in supermarkets, so they decided to make them at home, using traditional, family-style recipes. The empanadas quickly became a popular staple at gatherings with friends, families, and co-workers. Federico and Cecilia launched Cocina 54 Empanadas in 2017, with the mission to bring convenient, healthy empanadas to families everywhere.
This Spring, Cocina 54 Empanadas launched in over 200 H-E-B stores in Texas and beyond with 5 delicious flavors: Traditional Beef, Spicy Beef, Bacon, Egg & Cheese, Chicken & Peppers and Spinach & Cheese. The empanadas are made from scratch with fresh ingredients, meats raised without antibiotics and naturally gluten-free. They are pre-baked and feature delicious international flavors with a twist.
Empanadas have been rising in popularity over the last two years, and have been featured on the cover of Saveur Magazine, on Google Food Trends, and named one of the top trends in 2016 by Restaurant Hospitality. “Empanadas provide a delicious, healthy meal option that is quick and easy to prepare,” says Cecilia Panichelli. “Many people in the US have tried empanadas at restaurants, but haven’t thought to have them at home for an easy, go-to meal for the whole family. Cocina 54 Empanadas is changing that.”
