Bio

Didi Aphra is the result of a second creative incarnation of my brain. Before this, I had a blog called The Style Aesthete for two and a half years but as I grew, so did my creative direction. So now Didi Aphra is a brand that is pervasive of not only my aesthetic but all my passions and my way of living.

Embrace what sets you apart! Don’t be afraid to be different. The very same thing I was bullied for as a kid (being weird) is now the one thing I am the most grateful for. Who wants to be normal? Normal is boring! I’m a member of the misunderstood club but that membership card is what led me to find some like-minded ‘weirdos’ that I otherwise might never have found. I love esoteric things, being creative, slow jazz, vintage treasures, b o o k s. I believe in non-conformity, I believe in mental health, I believe in self care, I believe in learning something new everyday (intelligence is sexy). As for believing in myself? Honestly I’m still working about that but that’s what this blog is for. And you can join me.

There’s something strangely comforting in tragedy. I find myself drawn to works of art–whether it be novels, films, paintings, or songs–that hold a melancholy tone. Inner turmoil makes art infinitely more relatable than something with glitz and glamour. Those are the kinds of things that lose detail the closer you look, but seem intricate from afar. Or when Oscar Wilde said “sorrow stirs one’s sense of beauty” and “wounds are like red roses”. The embrace of darkness loves me well. And I let it.

You are your longest relationship. You are the one who has to work hard towards your goals, you are the one who has to drag yourself out of bed in the morning when you are crying, you are the one who decides what you’re worth. I’m a big believer in self care and self love. Be gentle with yourself. We are so quick to disparage ourselves yet so easily see others for their beauty. Start small. Remember that there are bad days but good days will come too.

Think of this blog as a collection of belles-lettres to art, literature, and all the things I’m passionate about, written not just plainly for aesthetics, but incorporated with intelligence and a hunger for knowledge. Like the Greek word ‘philosophia’ which means ‘love of wisdom’. If I had to define this blog as Greek gods, I would say it’s a combination of Aphrodite and Athena, representative of my need to be both aesthetically and intellectually stimulated.
