Daniel Silva Attempts to Clarify ‘Misunderstanding’ About Corey La Barrie’s Death in Crash
Daniel Silva, who was driving in the car crash that killed YouTuber Corey La Barrie (Silva escaped with a broken hip), is giving his side of the story on Instagram after legal documents were filed on his behalf claiming La Barrie was partially responsible for his own death. Silva claims he was not able to review the documents, which were filed by an insurance company, beforehand, and that they do not reflect his “personal beliefs or feelings about what happened.”
Silva was arrested for second-degree murder on May 11, 2020 after crashing into a street sign with La Barrie in the passenger seat, following a party for La Barrie’s 25th birthday at which Silva had been drinking, sources told TMZ. Silva was charged with one felony count. In August, he pleaded no contest to the charge, receiving a sentence of 365 days in county jail with 216 days of credit, as well as 5 years of probation and 250 hours of community service.
These new legal documents were submitted in response to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by La Barrie’s parents. According to TMZ, the documents say La Barrie assumed the risk of death when he got in the car with Silva. Silva suggested otherwise on Instagram.
“I have remained silent out of sympathy and empathy for the La Barrie family, and at the request of my lawyer, but cannot let this misunderstanding continue without a response,” he wrote before disputing the documents’ claims. “I wish nothing but healing and kindness for everyone involved.”
On social media, La Barrie’s friends and members of his YouTube community harshly condemned the claims that La Barrie was in any way responsible for his own death.
