The Taj Mahal of Negros, Philippines
One of the most famous heritage landmarks in the Philippines, The Ruins, also known as the “Taj Mahal” of Negros, was built in memory of a sugar baron’s wife.
Mariano was an attractive young bachelor who while travelling in Hong Kong, he met a beautiful Portuguese lady from Macau – Maria Braga.
Love at first sight 😍
They lived in Mariano’s ancestral house in Talisay after they got married.
Mariano and Maria were blessed with a lot of children. 10 of them! Sadly, when Maria was pregnant with their 11th child she had an accident and Maria and the baby passed away before a physician could arrive.
Mariano was brokenhearted and in order for him to move on and get his life going for his children, he thought of building a mansion nearby his ancestral house. It would help him heal his broken heart and remind him of Maria for the rest of his life.
That’s how this beautiful mansion was built before it came into ruins. A true story of what romance looked like in the old days before Tinder!
What do you think? I'd rather someone build me a beautiful mansion while I was alive but I'd settle for either 💜💚💙 #theruins #itsmorefuninthePhilippines #phillipines2016 #tbexph #tpbgovph @tourismphilippines
